Bilderundworte is German for "picturesandwords". We at Bilderundworte are committed to collect all kinds of fascinating and exciting stuff featuring our main topic: comic books. Our work is driven by our personal interest. We don’t see comic books as kids-only „colourful cartoon strips“. While there are countless brilliantly made educational series and publications for a younger audience, the largest part of the comic book industry is made for grown ups. There is almost an endless number of artists – from writers, to illustrating artists or all-rounders- All of them are interested in telling us stories, not just about the ever present super heroes, but also about cultural or political developments taking place all over the globe. Many are using comic books to make a critical statement or direct their readers' attention to important issues. Some are looking for inspiration in the works of classical authors and thus contribute hugely when it comes to presenting our cultural heritage to future generations. And many artists have become an irrevocable part of this cultural heritage themselves. Almost ALL of them want to do a simple thing: entertain. And we like to join them in their effort.
bilderundworte us comic shop
Our first and foremost idea is to set a high standard for entertainment regarding comic books. Selling stuff comes in second. In our online shop we welcome anyone who takes delight in searching, finding and buying cool comics. But to be honest: We neither have the infrastructure, nor budget or storage space to keep in stock all the new books and series we (or you) might like. Therefor we deciede to settle for antiquarian comic books, magazines atc. Many of which you will find in our online shop. For new publicatoins, simply check out some of the international top seller.
bilderundworte’s comic book archive
While our blog offers a range of topics our comic book archive is meant to give you a broad overview on European and US comic books throughout the ages - including publisher’s previews, as far as available. No doubt this is a long term project far from completion. We are talking hundreds of thousands of comic books here, guys. Nevertheless our archive is developing by the minute, growing in stock and getting new features. You won’t find every archived titel in our online shop though and generally all the previews are and will remain archived material only. We are – as a work in progress – however trying to find a way to include new infos and links in our archive as well.
advertisement on Bilderundworte.de
Our website is a passionate project based on countless hours of work needed to develop complex and innovative web programming and produce quality content. Most of these working hours are spent at night and all of them are unpaid. It is kind of a curse that even the greatest and most interesting mission needs funding. This is why we have decided to include sponsored google advertisement on bilderundworte.de. Of course we are trying to find the most fitting and interesting advertisements to concur with your interests, but unfortunately this won’t always work. „Johnny the Homicidal Maniac“ will most probably draw in some lawyer’s ads – which of course is funny and kind of fitting in a way, but really we would prefer a link to the series’ US publisher. Well this, too, is a work in progress! Meanwhile, please remember: You can support us and our work and site content by clicking on our sponsored links if you find something interesting there. And who knows! Maybe even the lawyers will come in handy one day.
Banners from comic book publishers and other websites specialized in our main topic „comic books“ are valuable and interesting for us as well as our rapidly growing number of German and international visitors. We are working on a "standardized" way to include banners and will soon offer this kind of ad space on our site. If your site or blog fits our content and you are madly interested in placing a banner, we will be more than happy to call you!
swap and exchange links and knowledge
The "grande ideal" of the world wide web is cross-linking. Without it the internet wouldn’t be the same and we would find only half the stuff we do. Swapping banners and links is a free of charge offer on our website to support this idea. It works very simple: We include a link to your website to send interested visitors your way and you, in return, do the same. As a result each site will eventually get more visits from people in search of interesting content. This offer is open to all the comic book missionaries out there who don’t run a 100% commercial site, share our interest in the medium AND want to share their comic book knowlege – because there is still so much we can’t and don’t know, but YOU may. If you are an artist or group of artists, illustrator, writer, blogger in posession of exciting and fitting content (like comic book reviews, golden age cover collections or maybe designer toys) or if you spend most of your free time making up an interesting (online) comic magazine or fanzine you may very well be interested in sharing it with our readers. Don’t hesitate to send us a note.
