"The Trading Tortoise is a traveling art project by Souther Salazar & Monica Choy with the goal of creating a unique community experience while exploring America through objects and stories." Souther Salazar (* 1978 in Hayward, CA) graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He lives and works as an artist in Central California. In his artwork he uses a "wide variety of freely mixed media" to produce collages, paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations. The plan of this new project is to create a sculptural installation that is set up at different stops throughout the US. People are invited to trade in objects and receive something else in return. The objects they bring in will travel to the next stop(s). The idea is quite simple and also beautiful: to connect people in different places. The project will be documented through photos, videos, and artwork on the artist’s blog and by a series of 5 printed "Trading Tortoise zines". An art show scheduled for May 2013 at Jonathan Levine Gallery New York will feature the outcome.
